Our group studies the biogeochemistry of nutrients and metals and their fate in aquatic ecosystems. Both metals and nutrients are naturally found in aquatic systems but human activities has increased the concentrations of these constituents to levels that cause threat to the ecological health of these systems and in some cases present risk to human health. We focus on basic and applied research that encompasses field and laboratory work. Our goal is to provide practical solutions to current environmental problems by minimizing the intervention but maximizing the impact on the natural systems. We have developed a broader inter-disciplinary collaborations with faculty from engineering, science, and social science disciplines which have helped us create new technologies and implement them on the field.
